‘Like’ if you want BSkillet outed

10 Nov

I have for over 48 hours known “slutvote” blogger BSkillet’s full name, photo, age and which company he works at. And lots of other random info about where he previously lived, etc.

I know that outing him is not illegal, as I am a private individual. And I think that as a private individual, outing him is more ethical than if I were a journalist because news corporations have their own agendas, e.g. readership, site hits, luring advertisrs; and money is always behind such agendas.

And as an anonymous person, I cannot be seeking fame or kudos by outing him.

However I’m still not sure if it’s ethical and I cannot make up my mind as to whether it is ethical. I normally am against outing people unless they’re really, really bad. But BSkillet isn’t just trolling, he really believes in what he says so I think this is serious because it’s real hate, not just joking or trolling.

So I will leave you all to decide. Anyone who reads this and wants BSkillet outed, just click ‘like’ on this post, or tell me any other way you would like to (a comment, a tweet – I’m @KalikaGold on Twitter.) I’m not looking for an arbitrary number like 10, 50 or 100 people, just trying to get a feel of how many of you think it is ethical/want him outed, vs the number of people who view this page. If a lot of you want him outed by tommorrow, I’ll do it. Or maybe leave it till the 12th – it depends on how many people view the page. I’m not a fan of arbitrary time limits because they aren’t always that fair.

Kali xx

Having read his posts, yes, I think it is not unethical for you to out him. I normally am against such actions, but as you say he is not simply a troll or a one-time joker, nor simply expressing ideas that others don’t agree with. You are a sex blogger and perhaps BSkillet’s ilk would want to out you for that, but that is wrong because you aren’t hurting anyone or expressing hate. You compare yourself to journalists, and though I was against ‘doxtober’ I was never against private individuals on Shit Reddit Says outing Creepshots posters. I’m only against journalists outing people for trolling; however even if a journalist outed BSkillet I wouldn’t be against it because, as you have said, he is not a troll. I blogged on stuff like this a few days ago: http://slutocracy.wordpress.com/2012/11/06/no-more-safe-spaces-the-private-and-the-professional/

Perhaps this post will help you come to a decision either way.

I hope you do out him because if he really believes that stuff then he should be willing to stand up and be counted, defend his views.

If you don’t have time to read the post – it’s long – this excerpt neatly encapsulates the argument:

“When I think of the number of white supremacists, anti-semites, misogynists, rape culture enablers and homophobes that nobody has managed to out yet, I’m staggered. We seem to go for the harmless young people having fun in hotel suites or kissing in cars. The best we can do is get people fired for Facebook jokes or Reddit trolling.”

Thanks for your comments, Slutocrat. It’s interesting that you appear to be against Gawker’s outing Violentacrez, yet support me outing BSkillet; it briungs me some relief. I agree with you that BSkillet is worse and more dangerous than VA. Because trolling (or even writing, drawing or fantasising) about underage kids or violence doesn’t mean you’d actually do it. For example, VA loves his disabled wife even while he moderated a subreddit called ‘misogyny’ – it was just for fun. But BSkillet really believes the stuff he writes, and he’s way more misogynistic than VA. Most of what VA was hated for was posting clothed photos of girls under 16 that he found on Facebook or 4Chan to a subreddit he called “Jailbait” which was shut down years ago. But BSkillet is way more misogynistic and dangerous than VA, or than people who write fiction about paedophilia.

I’ve read your post and blog previously, I think it’s great 🙂 Your writing reminds me a bit of the It’s Just a Hobby blog.

He has the right to free speech, but there is NO protection – nor should there be – from the consequences of said free speech. I’m in the “Out him” camp. If outting the Reddit troll proved to him that there are consequences for the vile, filthy things he’s done, I have no doubt that this guy has done the same, and probably has secret files in his computer of violence against women, if he’s not a secret Reddit troll himself. And the women he works with and associates with have the right to know what a horrible human being they keep close to themselves, one who wishes violence and shame on them. I’d sure as hell want to know if someone I thought of as a friend actually thought crap like that about me. There’s a reason sex offenders are required to report in, and why people in the surrounding area are notified when one moves into the neighborhood. This is little different, and the very act of pulling his account AND blocking the webcache just proves he KNOWS how vile his stuff is.

Thanks for your insightful comments, BK. I think he’s probably worse than the reddit troll, because trolls are just trolls; they don’t believe what they troll so aren’t real misogynists who would really commit violence. The reddit troll in question, Violentacrez, loves his disabled wife very much and she and his son knew all about his trolling and were okay with it; they even used Violentacrez-inspired reddit usernames. But BSkillet I think is much more like your sex offender analogy; what he posts may not be as sexual as what Violentacrez posted, but it’s far more misogynistic and worse he actually believes it so is far more likely to act upon his beliefs. And yeah, great point about the women he works with having a right to know that he thinks of them as sluts who should submit to their husbands and be disenfranchised. You’ve raised a lot of good points with the sex offender analogy.
